CONWAY, S.C. – Duke closed out its opening weekend with an impressive 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20) sweep of Queens (N.C.) on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.

Duke (2-0) impressed on offense, hitting .448 while holding Queens (0-1) to .190. It was the most efficient offensive game for Duke since it hit .462 in a victory over Syracuse on Oct. 15, 2023. Ashby Zubchevich led the way with 14 kills, while Taylor Williams had 12. Zoë Gillen-Malveaux (8), Breonna Goss (7) and Avery Hamlin (7) also combined for 22 kills and only two errors.

Nikki Quinn led the passing game for the Blue Devils with 34 of the team's 39 assists.

On defense, Mailinh Godschall led with 11 digs, while Goss and Williams each had two blocks.

The sweep is Duke's first since it defeated Clemson 3-0 on Oct. 12, 2025. The win also marks Duke's first 2-0 start to a season since 2021, when the Blue Devils started 6-0.

How it Happened
Set 1 – Duke 25, Queens 13

The Blue Devils won seven of the opening 10 points and never looked back. Duke led by as much as 14 (23-9) in the set. A Zubchevich kill closed out the frame and gave Duke a 1-0 lead.
Duke recorded 19 kills while hitting .485. Hamlin (6), Williams (5) and Zubchevich (5) combined for 16 of the kills and two errors. Quinn had 10 assists in the set. Queens hit .285 but had no answer for Duke's offense.

Set 2 – Duke 25, Queens 14

Duke continued its dominance in the second set as it quickly jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never led by less than seven the rest of the set. The Blue Devils hit .240 and held the Royals to .000.
Four Duke players recorded two-plus kills in the set, with Williams' four leading the way.
The Blue Devils forced the Royals into eight attacking errors.

Set 3 – Duke 25, Queens 20

In the closest set of the day, Duke found itself trailing 4-1 out of the gates. The Blue Devils went on to win five of the next six points to take a 6-5 lead and did not trail again.
Duke hit .586 in the set, with Zubchevich leading the way with seven kills on 10 attempts and no errors. Goss and Gillen-Malveaux added four kills apiece.
Goss clinched the victory with a kill off a Quinn set.

By the Numbers

Duke won the ace battle 8-1. Quinn led the way with three, while Williams had two.
With 12 kills, Williams has now registered 10-plus kills in five consecutive games dating back to last season.
Duke led the kill battle 48-29. For the second time this season, Zubchevich led Duke in kills with her match-high 14.
The Blue Devils had 32 digs compared to the Royals' 26. Both teams had 3.0 blocks.
