DURHAM, N.C. - An early goal by Elon was all that was needed as Duke men's soccer fell, 1-0, to the visiting Phoenix on Friday night at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils (4-6) generated several scoring chances following halftime but were unable to equalize.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elon took advantage of an early Duke foul, curling a left-footed shot from 30 yards out into the top right corner of the frame, grabbing an early 1-0 lead.
A physical first half was contested in the midfield, as neither team generated an offensive push through the first 30 minutes.
Kai Aina was stymied in the 32nd minute, as his header off a free kick was collected by the sprawling Elon goalkeeper.
Duke netminder Colin Gallagher made a save early in the second half, turning away a shot by the Phoenix in the 52nd minute. Gallagher was tested again less than 10 minutes later, as he made a diving stop on another free kick attempt.
The Blue Devils pushed forward in the final 10 minutes, applying pressure to the Elon backline, but their two shots on goal were saved by the Phoenix.

Duke returns to action in one week, hosting No. 6 Stanford on Friday, Oct. 2.
Kickoff between the Blue Devils (4-6, 0-3 ACC) and Cardinal (7-1-1, 0-1-1 ACC) is scheduled for 7 p.m.
