Sobb spent more than two decades selling corporate sponsorships for Duke Athletics and served as the department’s liaison with Learfield, the university’s multimedia rights holder. He negotiated Duke’s first corporate naming rights agreement and led sales efforts for premium seating in Brooks Field in Wallace Wade Stadium, Cameron Indoor Stadium and other venues. He also oversaw a resource acquisition team responsible for game day hospitality across multiple sports and collaborated with Duke Stores on licensing and concessions agreements.
Sobb also served as the sport administrator for the men’s golf program, supporting its coaches, student-athletes and operations. He coordinated the Rod Myers Invitational for more than 20 years and played a key role in the rededication of the Duke University Golf Club in 1994. He chaired the ACC Men’s Golf Tournament Committee from 2011–16 and was marketing chair for the 2001 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships hosted at Duke.
Earlier in his career, Sobb was promoted to promotions director in 1990, director of marketing in 2001 and assistant athletics director for marketing in 2004. He added corporate relations to his title in 2008 and was named associate AD for external affairs the following year. Over time, he helped launch and manage several initiatives including game day hospitality, suite and club seat sales, the Read with the Blue Devils program and department-wide video and signage upgrades.
Sobb was a founding member of the South Durham Baseball Foundation and the Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center board. He also served on the Durham Chamber of Commerce’s Bull City Crowd Pleasers committee and represented athletics on Duke University’s Corporate Relations and Calendar Committees.
A native of Indiana, Sobb earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 1987. He worked as a student assistant in IU’s sports information office and completed a postgraduate internship at the University of North Carolina.
