Duke Hits Road For South Padre Shootout After Christmas...
The undefeated and top-ranked Duke Blue Devils (10-0) will hit the road the day after Christmas for the South Padre Shootout on Dec. 27-29 in Los Fresnos, Texas. Duke will take on Detroit on Dec. 27 and Iowa State on Dec. 29 with games times set for 8:00 PM at Los Fresnos High School. Detroit enters the shootout with a 2-6 record, while Iowa State is 3-4.
The games will not be aired on the Duke Radio Network.

A Look At Detroit...
Detroit enters the shootout with a 2-6 record, after defeating Bethune-Cookman, 76-61, on Dec. 20. Head Coach Anne Rexford is in her fourth year at Detroit and owns a 53-41 record. Sara Crum leads the Titans with a 10.1 scoring average on the season.
Duke leads the overall series with Detroit 2-0 with victories coming on Dec. 20, 1993 (94-82) and Nov. 28, 1997 (87-65). Both meetings came in tournaments.
Undefeated Starts...
For only the second time in school history, Duke has bolted out to a10-0 record on the season. Since Coach G arrived in 1992-93, Duke has two of the top three undefeated marks.

A Look At Iowa State...
Iowa State owns a 3-4 record on the season under head coach Bill Fennelly in his eighth year with the Cyclones. The Cyclones are led by Lindsey Wilson (15.3 pts.), Anne O'Neil (9.6 pts.), Mary Cofield (9.4 pts.) and Lisa Kriener (9.4 pts.).
Duke leads the overall series 1-0 with an 81-63 victory in Durham, N.C. It was a matchup of fifth-ranked Iowa State and sixth-ranked Duke on Dec. 30, 2000. The Blue Devils were led by Alana Beard's 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists along with 17 points from Georgia Schweitzer and 14 points from Iciss Tillis. Duke shot 54.7 percent from the field in the victory.
Undefeated Teams...
Duke is one of only six undefeated teams remaining in Division I women's college basketball-- Connecticut, UNC Wilmington, Minnesota, Auburn, West Virginia and Duke (through Dec. 22 games).
DEE-FENCE...
Duke has not allowed an opponent to score more than 58 points this season in the 10 games. The Blue Devils lead the ACC in scoring defense (49.2). The Blue Devils are outscoring opponents by a 41.4 clip on the season.
Duke Recently...
Over the last five games, Duke is averaging 102.4 points, shooting 53.2 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from 3-point land and hitting 74.0 percent from the free throw line. Duke is outrebounding opponents 46.8 to 27.2 (+19.6) and is forcing opponents to 29.8 turnovers a contest. The Blue Devils are outscoring opponents by 55.8 in the games against Howard, St. Joseph's, Charleston Southern, Florida International and Tulsa.
Harding Continues Stellar Play...
Freshman Lindsey Harding continues to be a big boost off the bench for the Blue Devils this season. She is averaging 6.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Harding has scored double-figures three times out of the last five games.
Harding is averaging 3.40 assists a game, which ranks 13th in the ACC stats. She has the best steals average (2.40) and the second highest assist average of any freshman in the ACC.
Sizzling From Three ...
With the exception of centers Brooke Smith and Mistie Bass, the remaining eight players on the Duke squad has hit at least one 3-pointer on the season.
So far, Duke is averaging 6.4 made a game and hitting 36.0 percent. Vicki Krapohl (17), Alana Beard (10), Jessica Foley (11) and Iciss Tillis (13) have each hit double-figures from behind the arc.
Key Point Play ...
The Blue Devils are getting key production from its point guard tandem of Vicki Krapohl and Lindsey Harding. The duo is averaging a combined 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.3 steals on the season. Krapohl leads the ACC with a 50.0 three-point field goal percentage, while Harding has a team-best 82.6 free throw percentage.
Turnover Prone ...
Duke's defense this season has been incredible as the Blue Devils are forcing 27.9 turnovers a contest. In 10 games, Duke has forced 30 or more turnovers four times and 20 or more nine times. Charleston Southern committed a season-high 37 on Dec. 16.
As a team, the Blue Devils are only committing 15.1 turnovers a game and leads the ACC with a +12.8 turnover margin. Duke had a season-low eight turnovers on Dec. 18 against FIU.
Brooke Smith Misses Games...
Freshman Brooke Smith missed the Florida International and Tulsa games due to a sprained ankle. Smith turned the ankle against Charleston Southern and did not practice through the Tulsa game. She is expected to play in the South Padre Shootout. On the season, Smith is averaging 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds.
The Beard Factor..
In 10 games this season, junior Alana Beard is averaging 22.9 points and has scored 20 or more points in eight of the 10 games. Of her 20-point games, Beard has registered 21 or more points in all eight games.
As of Dec. 16, her 22.9 average ranked 11th in the NCAA, while her 4.3 steals average was eighth.
In the ACC categories, Beard ranks first in scoring (22.9), 14th in rebounding (6.3), second in field goal percentage (.599), fourth in assists (4.50), ninth in free throw percentage (.698), first in steals (4.60), T-11th in 3-point field goal percentage (.357), T-12th in blocks (0.80) and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (2.05).
