GAINESVILLE, FLA. - Freshman Carolyn Riggs was credited with two goals as Duke was victorious over Central Florida, 3-0, Friday evening in the first game of the University of Florida's Adidas Showdown in Gainesville, Fla.
Riggs was credited with her second goal of the season at the 34:50 mark when a Central Florida defender knocked the ball in for a UCF own goal.  Fifteen minutes later (49:30), Riggs scored on an 18 yard volley off a deflection.  Riggs leads the Blue Devils with three goals and six points.
The third goal of the game was scored at the 3:19 mark when sophomore Lauren Simel kicked the ball to senior Liz Wagner, who crossed to junior Gwendolyn Oxenham from six yards out for her first goal of the season.
The Blue Devils (3-2) dealt Central Florida (4-1) their first loss of the season and shutout their opponent for the second straight match, led by sophomore goalkeeper Katie Straka who has played 131 minutes in the two games, while senior Tara Walker has backed up Straka with 49 minutes.
Duke takes on the University of Florida (2-2) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Adidas Showdown.  Florida is ranked No. 14 in the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings and No. 24 in the Soccer America poll.  The Gators will be the fourth top-25 opponent in just six matches for the Blue Devils this season.
