TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - The 22nd-ranked Florida State women's soccer team scored one goal in the first half and went on to a 3-0 victory over 13th-ranked Duke on Friday at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.
Florida State capitalized on a Duke turnover in the first half as Leah Gallegos connected on her ninth goal of the season at the 38:46 mark. The Seminoles went on to outshot the Blue Devils 6-4 in the first stanza.
Duke was able to outshoot Florida State, 9-8, in the second half but wasn't able to connect on any goals. The Seminoles added two late netters after the Blue Devils switched up their formation to try to even the match up. Gallegos and Julia Schnugg each added late goals for the Seminoles.
"We had plenty of opportunities to score goals tonight, but we just couldn't finish," said Duke Head Coach Robbie Church. "It wasn't that we played poorly, we are just not scoring goals. In three ACC games, we have only scored one goal and that is not acceptable."
The Blue Devils fall to 8-4-1, 1-2 in the ACC, while Florida State improves to 8-5, 2-1. For the game, FSU outshot Duke 14-13. Duke will next travel to the SAS Soccer Stadium to play N.C. State on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
