COLUMBUS, OHIO ? Despite a tough performance by Jackie Carleton at the 2005 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, the Duke senior fell in the Round of 16 to third-seeded Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech Friday. Carleton reached the second round of the national indoors for the first time in her career by defeating Ohio State's Caroline O'Keefe Thursday.
Carleton topped Miller in the first set, winning 6-4, but Miller took the next two, 6-4, 6-2. Carleton, who qualified for the national indoors by reaching the finals of the Southeast Regional Championships, was among 32 of the best collegiate tennis players in the country. Miller entered the fall season with a preseason ranking of eight and earned the No. 3 seed in the national tournament by winning the singles title at the South Region Championships.
Carleton wraps up the fall season with a 7-4 record after going 6-2 in her last two tournaments. She can now turn her attention to training for the spring team season, which is slated to begin Fri., Jan 13, at the Freeman Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
