COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Duke men's swimming and diving team swam a season-best 1:24.15 200 freestyle relay to finish in ninth place, closing out the second day of competition at the 2006 ACC Championships, hosted by the University of Maryland Thursday. Sophomore Ryan Packer swam a 20.67 anchor to come from behind and lift the relay to ninth.
Junior Jacob McCafferty competed in the 200 IM bonus finals Thursday evening after qualifying with a career-best time of 1:53.43 in the morning preliminary session. His 1:54.36 in the finals put him in 23rd overall for the individual medley.
Also in the preliminaries, Packer fell just outside the finals cutoff, tying his career-best 50 freestyle time of 20.95. Packer and McCafferty were two of 15 Blue Devils to set personal records at Thursday's ACC Championships.
