DURHAM, N.C. ? After capturing their first win of the season last Saturday, the Duke wrestling team will host three home dual meets this week. The Blue Devils will take on Virginia Tech tonight at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Gardner-Webb and Virginia on Saturday.
The three dual meets will be the final three home contests for the Blue Devils in 2006.
“My guys are looking forward to their last few home matches of the season,” stated Duke Head Coach Clar Anderson. “We have been training very hard and will be ready to go. We still have some wrestlers out with nagging injuries such as Addison Nuding and Philip Wightman but we have all the confidence in the world with the guys wrestling today.”
Duke won its first dual meet of the season last Saturday in a dominating 37-3 victory over Campbell University. Duke won nine of the 10 weight classes, including the first eight matches of the evening.
The Blue Devils, 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the ACC, will look for their first conference win of the year when they take on the Virginia Tech Hokies tonight in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Duke-Gardner-Webb match on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. while the Duke-Virginia dual meet is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“We train for a whole day of matches, so two on Saturday should be a good warm up for the ACC Tournament,” Anderson said.
Scouting the Virginia Tech Hokies
Virginia Tech enters tonight's tilt 0-15 overall and 0-3 in the ACC. The Hokies, who hold a 15-12-1 advantage over the Blue Devils in series history, won last year's dual meet, 25-11, on Jan. 15 in Blacksburg, Va.
The Hokies have two wrestlers ranked nationally. Redshirt senior Mike Faust is ranked eighth by Amateur Wrestling News, ninth in the NWCA/InterMat and W.I.N. Magazine rankings and 12th in Rev Wrestling rankings at the heavyweight division. Redshirt senior David Hoffman began the week ranked 17th in both the NWCA/InterMat rankings and Amateur Wrestling News at 141 pounds.

Scouting the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb holds a 12-10 record entering Saturday's dual meet. The 12 team victories in 2005-06 mark the most wins in a season for the Bulldogs since the program went to Division I in 2000-01.
The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight dual meets, posting victories over Davidson, Belmont Abbey, Campbell, Carson-Newman, Delaware State, Duquesne and Millersville.
Gardner-Webb has one wrestler who is ranked nationally. Senior Daniel Elliott is ranked 13th in the NWCA/InterMat rankings at 149 pounds.

Scouting the Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia boasts a 10-4 overall record entering Saturday's ACC match. The Cavaliers, who are 2-0 in conference action, are second in the league behind Maryland.
The Cavaliers have won five straight dual meets entering the weekend, posting victories over North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, Ohio and James Madison.
Virginia will also have two matches on Saturday. They will square off against N.C. State at noon before their match against Duke.
