
No. 6 Duke Rolls to 7-0 Victory over No. 57 Virginia Tech on Friday

Durham, N.C. - No. 6 Duke picked up its fifth straight win with a 7-0 victory over No. 57 Virginia Tech on Wednesday at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The Blue Devils improve to 17-5 on the year and 9-1 in the ACC while the Hokies fall to 12-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Duke earned victories in all six singles matches on the day. No. 4 Ludovic Walter won in straight sets against No. 52 Arvid Puranen 6-4, 6-2. He is now 8-2 in ACC matches and 16-5 in dual matches. On the year he has a 26-10 overall record and has increased his school record for career victories to 122 singles wins. No. 70 Peter Rodrigues also defeated a ranked opponent. He cruised in the second set to complete a 7-5, 6-0 win over No. 125 Albert Larregola in the third spot. Rodrigues has now won 13 consecutive matches and improves to 20-1 in dual meets, 9-1 in the ACC and 26-7 overall. Joey Atas won his fifth straight match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nicolas Delgado at No. 4. Atas is now 7-2 in conference play and 12-6 in dual matches. Stephen Amritraj moved up one spot to the fifth position and came away with a 6-4, 6-3 win over David Rosenfeld for his fourth ACC victory.
No. 37 Jonathan Stokke and No. 111 Kiril Dimitrov completed the sweep with wins in three sets. Stokke won 10-7 in a super tiebreaker in the final set. He rallied after losing the first set to defeat Alexei Sergeev 6-7, 6-3, 1-0. The win is the 26th of the year for Stokke and he improves to 6-3 in conference play. Dimitrov won his first set handily 6-1 but the final two sets would come down to the wire. Christian Guevara forced a third set with a 7-5 win but Dimitrov reversed the score with a 7-5 victory of his own to take the match. Dimitrov is 6-3 in the ACC and 12-7 in dual matches this season.
The Blue Devils took the doubles point after sweeping the three matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, No. 50 Atas and Stokke claimed an 8-6 victory over Puranen and Sergeev. With the win Atas and Stokke improve to 24-8 on the year with a 13-5 record in dual matches and an 8-2 mark in the ACC. They have now won five straight matches. No. 57 Amritraj and Rodrigues earned an 8-3 win over Guevara and Wilkins in the No. 2 match. Amritraj and Rodrigues have posted a record of 9-1 in conference matches and are 12-5 in dual contests. Ned Samuelson and Walter clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory against Delgado and Larregola at No. 3. Samuelson and Walter are 11-6 in dual matches and 7-3 in the ACC.

Duke will play its regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host No. 11 Virginia at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The two teams enter the match in the top two spots of the ACC standings. The Cavaliers fell to 8-2 with a 4-3 loss to North Carolina on Friday. The two schools will battle for the top seed in the ACC Tournament, which will be held April 20-23 in Cary, N.C.
