DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke men's tennis doubles All-AmericaÂ
Theo Winegar had his Wimbledon run end Monday third round setback. Winegar and doubles partner Jean-Julien Rojer fell in three sets to No. 6 seed Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.Â
Playing at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Winegar and Rojer dropped the match, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 3-6. After leading 4-1 in the opening set, Arevalo and Pavic stormed back to force a 4-4 tie. Even at 5-5 and 6-6, the set went to the tiebreaker. Winegar and Rojer flipped a 2-2 tie into a 4-2 lead and never allowed another tie in holding on for the victory in the first set.Â
In the second set, a break-hold-break run turned a 4-3 deficit for Arevalo and Pavic into a set victory and force a deciding third. After a 1-1 tie in the final set, Arevalo and Pavic held, broke and held to open a 4-1 advantage and put away the match.Â
Winegar, who graduated from Columbia in May 2024 and joined the Blue Devils for the 2024-25 campaign, earned ITA Doubles All-America honors in 2025 after finishing No. 3 in the final doubles rankings withÂ
Cooper Williams. Winegar was also an All-ACC Doubles First Team selection in 2025. Pairing with Williams, Winegar earned a spot in the US Open main draw last summer.Â
As a Blue Devil, Winegar led the team with 25 doubles wins (25-14), including a 14-7 dual match record and a 4-4 mark in conference play. He notched notable doubles wins with Williams over the No. 21 Notre Dame pairing of Sebastian Dominko and Chase Thompson in the ACC Championship second round (6-4), No. 6 Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek of NC State in the ACC Championship quarterfinals (6-2) and No. 9 Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno of Tennessee in the NCAA Championship second round (6-3).
Winegar graduated with his Master of Management Studies from Duke's Fuqua School of Business in May 2025.
