DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke's assistant swimming coach, Dawn Chuck, was recently named one of five recipients of Brown University's Smith Trophy.  The Smith Trophy was established in 1983 in honor of Stanton and Marjorie Smith in recognition of their many contributions to the aquatics program at Brown University.
Recipients are selected by the coaching staff based on contributions to the team and to the university. Outstanding performances and high standards of leadership, character and sportsmanship are evaluated to determine award recipients. The Smith Trophy can be received only once and it is not necessarily presented on an annual basis.
Chuck graduated in 2002 with a B.S. degree in Psychology from Brown, where she was a team captain her senior year and is still on the record books for being a member of the 200-freestyle and 400-freestyle relay teams that set school records. She was the Ivy League Champion in the 200 Freestyle in 2001 and the 100 Freestyle in 2002 and participated in the 2002 NCAA Championships.
Chuck was a member of the Jamaican National Team for eight years and swam on the olympic team in 2002 and ?04. She joined the Duke swimming and diving staff for the 2005-06 season.
