
Six Blue Devils Named to 2006 All-ACC Academic Men?s Tennis Team

Durham, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the members of the 2006 All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis team with Duke placing a league-high six members on the 20-player squad.
The Blue Devils placed two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and one freshman on the team. Senior Ludovic Walter, a senior political science major, highlighted the list after earning ITA All-America honors for the third straight year and finishing the year ranked fifth in the singles rankings. He led Duke with 32 singles victories and broke the school record for career singles wins, finishing with 128 total victories. He was named to the All-ACC squad for the fourth straight year and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships.
Jonathan Stokke, a senior sociology major, and Joey Atas, a junior sociology major, also earned All-America honors after making the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championships. The pair finished the year with a doubles record of 27-13 and a national ranking of 10th. Stokke also helped lead Duke to its 12th ACC Championship with three singles wins to garner ACC Tournament MVP. He ended the year with a 29-19 mark in singles and was awarded the ITA Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Atas ended his first season with the Blue Devils with a singles record of 18-14.
Junior Peter Rodrigues, a political science major, ended his tremendous season with a singles record of 29-11. He compiled a dual match record of 23-5 and was 9-2 in conference play. He teamed up with Stephen Amritraj to earn All-ACC recognition and post a mark of 16-8 in doubles competition. Also named to the All-ACC Academic team was Ned Samuelson, a sophomore sociology major, and Kiril Dimitrov, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria. Samuelson compiled a singles record of 4-11 and a doubles mark of 15-8 with Walter. Dimitrov ended his freshman campaign with a singles record of 17-9.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
