
Two Singles Players, One Doubles Team Remain in Consolation Action at UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Members of the Duke men's tennis team were in action on Saturday on day two of the UVA Invitational. All eight Duke players have been knocked out of their main-draw brackets, but two Blue Devils remain in consolation action.
Sophomore Kiril Dimitrov and and freshman Aaron Carpenter will play in the consolation finals on Sunday in their respective brackets, as each came away with two wins on Saturday.Dimitrov came away with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Western Michigan's Tim Bradshaw and also posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over Eidy Igarashi of Old Dominion. Dimitrov will meet 98th-ranked Colin O'Brien of William and Mary tomorrow.
Carpenter defeated Cody Loup of Memphis and then went on to defeat Radford's Mehdi Benhammou, 6-1, 6-2, on Saturday, as the freshman will meet James McGee of N.C. State on Sunday.
Dylan Arnould, the 111th-ranked singles player in the country, advanced to the semifinals of his main-draw bracket after defeating 43rd-ranked Treat Huey of Virginia, 6-3, 6-4 in today's quarterfinals, but the freshman was defeated by 18th-ranked Harel Srugo of Old Dominion in the semifinals, 7-6, 6-1.
In a separate bracket, David Goulet joined Arnould in being the only Duke players still in main-draw action after the first day of action, but the junior was defeated in straight sets by N.C. State's Nick Cavady (6-2, 6-4) on Saturday.
David Lue won his first consolation match on Saturday, but was defeated by Virginia's Leif Sunderland in straight sets, as Lue ended his back-draw run in the semifinals. Junior Alex Stone also reached the semifinals of his consolation bracket, but was defeated by Brandon Corace of Virginia Tech in three sets ending Stone's run in the back draw.
Seniors Joey Atas and Peter Rodrigues were also in action on Saturday, but were defeated in their first consolation matches.
Three of four Duke doubles teams remained in main-draw action at the start of play on Saturday but each were defeated, as Atas and Rodrigues fell to Crosby and Bradshaw (Western Michigan), 8-5, Goulet and Arnould fell to Devvarman and Huey (Virginia), 8-5, and Carpenter and Lue fell to Benhammou and Rister (Radford), 8-5.
Dimitrov and Stone are still in action in doubles consolation play, as the duo reached the final match of its bracket posting two wins on Saturday. The duo will meet Clayton and Nguyen of Harvard tomorrow.
