ATLANTA ? The Blue Devil swimming and diving squads competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, as the Duke women currently sit in fourth place with 300 points and the Duke men are in fifth place with 257 points.
On the women's side, eight Blue Devil swimmers, two divers and four relay teams contributed to Duke's team score.
On the 3-meter board, sophomore Julie Brummond posted a score of 268.75 to place sixth, while junior Lauren Gonzalez took 10th place with a mark of 237.30.
In relay action, Duke teams took eighth (1:46.58) and 13th (1:50.21) in the 200 free relay and fourth (7:34.41) and 11th (7:48.16) in the 800 free relay.
Individually, two Blue Devils scored in the 400 IM event as freshman Jessica Perry took 12th place in 4:34.52 and classmate Kaitlin Ray took 14th place in 4:35.73. Senior Amy Brown did not score in finals action.
Sophomore Shannon Beall scored for Duke in the 100 fly, touching in 55.79 seconds for a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Elizabeth Bellew did not score in the 100 fly finals.
In the 200 free, freshman Ashley Twichell finished in 1:52.25 to secure an eighth-place finish, while classmate Katie Magee touched in 1:54.11 to take 14th place, as both Blue Devil swimmers contributed to the team tally. Sophomore Jackie Fasano competed in the finals, but did not score.
Perry took eighth place in the 100 breaststroke finals with a time of 1:05.90 and sophomore Meredith Bannon placed 14th with a mark of 1:07.12 to score for Duke. Ray competed in the 100 breast finals but did not score.
Senior Danielle Spearman took fourth place in the 100 backstroke finals (57.27) to score for the Blue Devils, while freshman Alessondra Speidel did not score in the event.
On the men's side, 10 Blue Devils contributed to the team tally, along with two divers and four relay teams.
In relay action, Duke squads took fifth (6:55.01) and 10th (7:07.58) in the 800 free relay and eighth (1:34.87) and ninth (1:37.22) in the 200 medley relay.
On the 1-meter diving board, junior Nick Campisano notched a score of 274.25 to take 10th place and sophomore Eric Winnard placed 11th with a mark of 259.75.
Individually, sophomore Jordan Charles touched in 59.11 seconds in the 100 breast to take 12th place and score for the Blue Devils. Four other Duke swimmers participated in the finals but did not score.
The 100 back event saw four Blue Devils come up with point-producing performances, as sophomore Murillo Adrados took seventh place in 51.49, freshman Spencer Booth took 10th place in 52.47, sophomore David Hahn took 12th place in 53.01 and sophomore Eric Ness took 15th place in 53.78.
Freshman Nick Garvy touched in 50.63 seconds to take eighth place in the 100 fly and Ness placed 14th in 51.64 seconds, as both produced points for the Blue Devils. Booth also took part in the finals but did not score.
Three Duke swimmers contributed to the team tally in the 200 free finals, as freshman Andy Osterland placed seventh (1:42.61), sophomore Sean Smith placed 11th (1:42.62) and freshman Pieter den Hartog placed 16th (1:47.00).
Two Blue Devils took part in the 400 IM finals but did not score.
Action at the Georgia Tech Invitational will conclude on Sunday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
