DURHAM, N.C. - Seniors Jacob McCafferty and Jackie Rodriguez, junior Danielle Spearman and freshmen Julie Brummond, Tim McKeever and Eric Ness were named to the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Swimming and Diving Teams, as announced on Thursday by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Clemson led all ACC schools with six selections on the men's academic unit, while Florida State and North Carolina each picked up five nods. Four student-athletes from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia received academic laurels this year, while Maryland and Virginia Tech both had three apiece. N.C. State landed a pair and Ruben Ross, an NCAA All-America and ACC diving champion in both the one-and three-meters, completed the 40-member academic contingent as the lone representative for Miami.
The women's squad was led by Florida State who secured six honors, followed by five each from North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Clemson, Miami and Virginia landed four picks, while Duke and Georgia Tech had three apiece. Boston College, Maryland and N.C. State each notched a pair to round out the 40-member academic squad.
This year's men's academic team consisted of 16 All-ACC performers, while 14 all-conference athletes were present on the women's squad.
The Duke men's swimming and diving team ended the 2006-07 season with an overall record of 4-5 (1-4 ACC), while the women's squad notched a record of 5-4 (1-4 ACC). The men placed ninth at the ACC Championships and the women placed eighth.
