DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University head coach Clar Anderson recently announced the Blue Devils' 2008-09 wrestling schedule. On tap for Duke this season are four home meets and trips to Reno, Nev. and Annapolis, Md.
Duke officially kicks off its season on Nov. 8 in a pair of competitions. The underclassmen will travel to Charleston, S.C., for the Freshmen and Sophomore Open. That same day, the rest of Blue Devils will make the short trip to N.C. State for the Wolfpack Open.
The following week, Duke will go up against Buffalo, Davidson, and Campbell at Davidson and take on the competition at the Hokie Open at Virginia Tech on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, respectively.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to compete in a selection of other tournaments over the next month. The month includes a trip to the Naval Academy for the Navy Classic and stops at either the Davidson Open or the Penn State Open in early December. Following final exams, ten of Duke's wrestlers also will get a chance to travel to Reno for the Reno TOC before dual matches kick off in January. To close out the calendar year, 15 Blue Devils will compete in the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C.
Duke kicks off 2009 at the N.C. State Duals on Jan. 3 and will tangle with Duquesne and Pittsburgh two days later at Pitt. After a 12-day layoff, the Blue Devils host their first home meet of the year when the Wyoming Cowboys come to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Nov. 17.
That meet is the start a three-match home stand that features ACC rivals North Carolina and Maryland on Jan. 21 and Jan. 24, respectively. The Blue Devils take a break from their ACC foes the next week with a trip to VMI on Jan. 30. They close out their conference schedule two weeks later with meets at Virginia and Virginia Tech on Feb. 15.
In preparation for the ACC Tournament on March 7, Duke will battle Campbell on Feb. 21 and host UNC Greensboro four days later. The Blue Devils will spend the next couple of weeks preparing for the ACC Championships hosted by Virginia Tech on March 7.
