Blue Devils Head West For Women Of Troy Basketball Classic...
Coming off a very impressive victory over No. 3 Stanford on Tuesday, the eighth-ranked Duke women's basketball team will head West for the Women of Troy Basketball Classic on Dec. 19-20 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, Calif. The Blue Devils will face host Southern California on Friday, Dec. 19 at 11:00 p.m. (EDT) and then will take on Siena on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10:00 p.m. (EDT).
The Duke/Southern California match will be aired live on Fox Sports Net West with Paul Sutherland (PXP) and Mary Murphy (Color) calling the action.
Fans can also hear the Blue Devils live on the radio on WDNC AM 620 with Steve Barnes (PXP) and Morgan Patrick (Color) on the air. In the rankings, Duke is listed No. 8 in the Associated Press and No. 12 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Polls.

The Blue Devils welcomed a season-high 7,999 fans in attendance against Stanford on Tuesday ... Duke holds a 298-144 points in the paint advantage on the year, but was outscored in the paint for the first time this season against Stanford, 24-18 ... over the last seven games, Duke has averaged 14.6 steals a contest ... the Blue Devils have forced an average of 26.9 turnovers during the last seven games ... so far on the season, senior Chante Black owns 23 blocked shots, which is more than Duke's seven opponents have accumulated against the Blue Devils (20).
A Look At Southern California...
Southern California enters the classic with a 5-3 overall record under the direction of Mark Trakh, who is in his fifth season with the Trojans. Trakh has led USC to a 73-49 record during his time at the helm. In 2008-09, Southern California has been led by Briana Gilbreath (11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds), Nadia Parker (11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds), Ashley Corral (11.3 points, 22 treys) and Camille LeNoir (11.0 points, 2.4 rebounds).
USC has one common opponent this season with Duke as the Trojans knocked off Michigan, 81-53, as the Blue Devils also defeated the Wolverines, 60-45.
The Series With Southern California...
Duke and Southern California will meet for the third time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the series 2-0. Friday's contest will be the first in series history on a home floor as the two previous contests were played in 1987 in Providence, R.I., and in 2006 in Norfolk, Va. On Dec. 5, 1987, Duke registered a 78-75 win over the Trojans in the Lady Friar Classic. On March 21, 2006, the Blue Devils knocked USC out of the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 85-51.
Duke Versus The Pac-10...
Duke owns an all-time record of 8-5 against teams from the Pac-10-- Arizona State (1-0), California (1-1), Southern California (2-0), Stanford (2-1), UCLA (2-1) and Washington (0-2). The Blue Devils will play their second straight Pac-10 team as Duke knocked off No. 3 Stanford on Tuesday night, 56-52. Since Coach P took over last year, Duke has notched a 2-0 record against Pac-10 teams (def. Arizona State last year).
A Look At Siena...
Siena owns a 1-7 overall record under the direction of Gina Castelli, who is in her 19th year with the Saints. Castelli owns a record of 290-234 with Siena. So far on the season, Allie Lindemann (13.4 points, 27 treys), Heather Stec (13.0 points, 8.9 rebounds), Sarah Fullmer (7.3 points, 15 blocks) and Cristina Centeno (6.5 points, 35 assists) have led the Saints.

Duke Versus The Metro Atlantic Athletic (MAAC)...
Duke owns an all-time record of 12-1 against teams from the Metro Atlantic Athletic (MAAC) -- Canisius (1-0), Fairfield (2-0), Loyola (Md.) (2-0), Manhattan (5-1), Rider (1-0), Marist (1-0). The only loss came at Manhattan, 69-64, on Jan. 6, 1983. The Blue Devils have won 11 in a row against MAAC squads.
Storylines...
? Coach P won her third contest against a top-five ranked team in just her second season with the Blue Devils. McCallie has notched victories against Stanford while the head coach at Maine, Michigan State and Duke.
? Duke has registered 15 charges taken in eight games on the year. Senior Carrem Gay leads the Blue Devils with six.
? In her 17-year coaching career, Joanne P. McCallie owns an 1-1 record against Southern California. McCallie's Michigan State squad knocked out the Trojans in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 61-59. Coach P also lost, 66-60, to USC in a home contest while at Maine. McCallie has never faced Siena in her 17 years.
? Duke has registered 26 wins out of its last 27 games at home against non-conference foes. Over the last eight years, the Blue Devils have posted a 53-4 overall record against non-conference opponents in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The losses came against Tennessee (2), Connecticut and South Carolina.
? Duke has won 30 straight home games in the month of December. The last loss came on Dec. 20, 1997 against UCLA, 93-83.

Christmas Comes Early...
Christmas came early for the Blue Devils on Tuesday against No. 3 Stanford as sophomore Karima Christmas registered a career-high 14 points to go along with a career-high nine rebounds in a career-high 25 minutes.
Christmas hit the first three-pointer of her career in the second half (was 0-of-9 prior to the make) and for the game she hit 2-of-2 attempts.
She hit 5-of-7 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws, while notching two steals.
Tough Defense...
The Duke defense has been stellar to open the season as the Blue Devils are holding opponents to 31.1 percent shooting, which ranks first in the ACC and second nationally.
Since Coach P arrived at Duke, it's defense has held 14 opponents to under 30.0 percent shooting and 33 opponents to under 40.0 percent shooting out of 43 games. Overall, the Blue Devils are 13-1 when holding opponents to under 30.0 percent, 17-3 when holding opponents under 40.0 percent shooting and is 3-7 when an opponent shoots over 40.0 percent since Coach P has arrived.
So far this season, Duke's defense has held its opponents to under 20 points in the first half in three of the eight contests -- Maine (12), Southern (18) and Iowa (14). The Blue Devil defense has also forced 23 or more turnovers by their opponents in six out of the last seven games. Duke has also held seven out of eight teams under 56 points.
Reunion Time...
In 2008-09, several Duke coaches will reunite with former teams -- Joanne P. McCallie (Maine), Shannon Perry (Southern California and Iowa), Samantha Williams (DePaul) and Al Brown (Tennessee).
McCallie was the head coach at Maine from 1992-2000, Perry was an assistant coach at USC from 2000-04 and played at Iowa from 1995-98, Williams was an assistant coach from 2004-07 and Brown was a women's assistant coach at Tennessee from 1995-2002 and men's assistant coach at UT from 1991-93.
Perry is expected to have over 40 friends and family at the Southern California contest on Friday and a number of people on Saturday as well.
