DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke men's and women's divers will represent the swimming and diving program this weekend at the Ohio State Invitational at the renowned McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio ? competing in preliminaries and finals for the three events from Friday through Sunday afternoon, Dec. 5-7.
The Blue Devils will compete against 12 other programs on the boards in the annual event, which is run in the same format as the NCAA and conference competition. Arizona State, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Minnesota, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, South Carolina, and Florida State will be in action in addition to Duke.
Live meet scoring will be available for all events at www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
On Friday, the preliminaries for the one-meter competition will kick off at 11 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m. Saturday will feature three-meter prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m., while the platform competition is set for noon on Sunday.
The Duke divers have been out of action since dual meet action against N.C. State and Maryland Oct. 31-Nov. 1, but have turned in strong showings thus far in the early season. On the women's side, three student-athletes ? Abby Johnston, Julie Brummond, and Jessica Lyden ? have met their NCAA Zones qualifying marks in both the one- and three-meter events, while Cody Kolodziejzyk and Shawn Hoffman have both done so on the one-meter for the men.
In Duke's season-opening dual meet sweep versus UNC-Wilmington, Johnston set pool records in the one- and three-meter as she was a double-winner at UNCW's facility. The next week against Campbell and Miami, she took second on the one-meter and third on the three-meter against the tough Hurricanes squad.
Last time out against the ACC foes, Johnston won the three-meter with a score of 366.25, which shattered her season-best, and also won the one-meter in 329.35 ? a pool record and seven-second season best. Hoffman was second on the one-meter against N.C. State and Maryland with a score of 321.50.
After this weekend, the Duke swimming and diving teams will return to dual meet action after the holidays, hosting Davidson and South Carolina at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion on Jan. 10 at 1 p.m.
