ATLANTA - The final day of the 2008 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships saw three Duke records fall, as the Blue Devils placed ninth for the event with 110 points.
Sophomore Andrew Clark broke the first school record of the day, touching in 9:29.19 for the 1000 free during the 1650 free event in which he placed 16th (15:48.99). Classmate Tim McKeever took 15th in the race in 15:48.15.
The 200 back prelims yielded another school record as sophomore Murillo Adrados touched in 1:48.73. Adrados went on to break his own record in finals action, finishing in 1:48.39 to take 12th place. Freshman Spencer Booth was right on Adrados' heels in the 200 back finals as he took 13th place with a mark of 1:48.54, while McKeever took 20th place in 1:50.91 and senior Scott Champagne took 22nd in 1:52.85.
Senior Ryan Packer was in action in the 100 free finals, touching in 46.02 for 24th place, while sophomore JD Coppel competed in the 200 breast finals, finishing in 2:06.30 for 22nd place and freshman Eric Ness placed 18th in 1:50.69 for the 200 fly finals.
The final event of the championships saw the Duke foursome of Packer, freshman Nick Garvy and sophomores David Hahn and David Carlson set a new 400 free relay record with a mark of 2:59.63. The quartet took seventh place.
Up next for ACC Swimming and Diving is the NCAA Championships. Divers from the league will compete at one of the five pre-determined Zone Diving locations March 13-15 or 14-16 to qualify for the national championships, which takes place March 27-29 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. The University of Washington and the Seattle Sports Commission will serve as host.
