COLLEGE PARK, Md. ? Duke placed sixth with 11.5 points at the ACC Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the Comcast Center. Host Maryland won the title for the first time since 1973 with 86.5 points. The meet can be seen on-demand on ACCSelect.com.
Senior captain Kellan McKeon finished up his career as a Blue Devil by taking fourth place at 125 pounds for the second straight year. McKeon was 27-15 this season with three falls. His 26 season victories tie him for 14th in the Duke records and his 62 career victories are tied for 22nd.
At 157 pounds, sophomore Voris Tejada was the only Duke wrestler to pick up two wins on Saturday, going 4-4 and taking fourth place. Tejada finished with a 34-14 mark this year, and his 34 wins tie him for second in school history. He is 53-22 all-time at Duke, good for a winning percentage of .707 that ranks 16th in the Duke record books.
Junior captain Addison Nuding picked up a pin at 165 pounds in wrestlebacks over N.C. State's Jalil Dozier. Nuding was 29-10 on the year with three pins and a team-best 4-3 record in the ACC. His 29 victories this season tie him for ninth in the Duke records. Nuding now holds a 51-37 all-time record as a Blue Devil.
Leading the team in 2007-08 was redshirt sophomore captain John Barone, who picked up one more win at the ACC's to make him Duke's all-time single-season wins record holder with 35. Barone's 11-second pin of Mike Walsh of Limestone College on Dec. 1 was the fastest fall in Duke history, breaking an 18-year-old school record. The 184-pounder posted 13 falls overall this season. He is now 70-24 overall as a Blue Devil, which is good for 10th place on Duke's all-time winning percentage list with a .758 clip. He is also tied for 18th on the career wins list with 70.
Duke finished 12-9 this season and finished the regular season with three straight dual meet victories. The Blue Devils also won six of their last eight duals in earning their best overall season record since 2004-05.
