CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Blue Devils posted another successful day at the Nike Cup Invitational's in Chapel Hill, N.C. The men grabbed 321 points to hold down fourth place, while the women narrowly missed South Carolina, collecting 347 points and putting them in third.
The Duke women snagged another third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, with the relay team of Steffi Niessl, Emily Barber, Lauren Weaver and Christine Wixted. Freshman Christine Wixted also posted her best season time in the 100 yard breaststroke, coming in third with a time of 1:01.39. Wixted posted another NCAA B cut time for this event. The Duke women closed the day with a fifth place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay.
The team of Chris Cirillo, Bryan Durazo, Nick Garvy and Ben Hwang also posted a third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Duke senior Nick Garvy went on to place second in the men's 100 fly with a time just shy of his season best, 48.64, which he posted in the preliminaries.
The Duke divers proved to be too much for the competition yet again. Junior Abby Johnston grabbed another first place finish on the one-meter board, with a score of 312.85.
Sophomore Nick McCrory made his first appearance of the competition, claiming first on the three-meter board with a score of 415.95. Junior Cody Kolodziejzyk claiming sixth for the Blue Devils, closely followed by sophomore Jordan Long in eighth.
The Blue Devils will close competition tomorrow hosting the platform portion of the tournament at the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion. Doors for the event will open at 9:00 a.m. Preliminaries will begin at 11:00 a.m.
