DURHAM, N.C.-Fresh off of a strong showing at the NC State Open, the Duke University wrestling team returns to action at the Keystone Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Nov. 21. Action kicks off at 9 a.m., at The Palestra.
The tournament features 12 teams vying for the team championship as well as individual titles across 10 weight classes. The championship finals and consolation finals and fifth-place matches are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Teams schedule to compete include: Penn, American, Appalachian State, Boston University, Brown, Duke, Edinboro, Liberty, Northwestern, Princeton, Rider and Virginia Military Institute
The Penn Sports Network will be streaming live from the Keystone Classic on Sunday, starting with the championship semifinals at 3 p.m. and continuing through the final round. Please note that the Penn Sports Network will be broadcasting primarily matches involving Penn wrestlers, with additional coverage of other matches when available. This includes the final round of competition for first, third and fifth place. Access live video streaming here.
The Blue Devils hit the mats after placing seven wrestlers among the top four at the NC State Open. Duke earned one title, three runner-up results, one third-place showing and two fourth-place finishes.
Redshirt freshman Bret Klopp captured his first tournament title at 174 pounds as he registered a major decision and two falls on his way to the championship. He is an impressive 11-1 this season, earning a win and a third-place finish in the first two events of the season. Klopp leads all Blue Devils with seven falls on the season.
Senior captain Mike Bell placed second at 141 pounds and is 6-3 overall this season. At the NC State Open, he registered two major decisions and won a hard-fought 8-5 decision to earn a spot in the championship final.
Also performing well at 141 pounds this season is redshirt freshman Riley Adamson. He garnered third-place at the NC State Open and is 9-3 overall on the year and ranks second behind Klopp with five falls.
The rookie duo of Ryan Harding and Brian Self are off to a good start to their collegiate wrestling careers. Competing at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively, are a combined 16-6 overall with matching 8-3 marks. Both captured fourth-place honors at the NC State Open.
Redshirt freshman David Henry anchors the 165-pound division for Duke with a 9-3 record, while Diego Bencomo is Duke's top 184-pound competitor. Bencomo recently posted a runner-up finish at the NC State Open and is 6-3 overall on the year.
Both Peter Terrezza and A.J. Guardado competed unattached last weekend. Guardado garnered second place, while Terrezza went out in the consolation bracket at 133 pounds.
