The Blue Devils shot 57-percent from the floor for the game as seniors Karima Christmas (11), Krystal Thomas (10) and Jasmine Thomas (16), along with freshman Haley Peters (12), joined Wells, Liston and Scheer in double figures. In addition, Duke outrebounded Carson-Newman 53-19 with Scheer (10) and K. Thomas (9) leading the way on the boards.
The Blue Devils controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 20-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Carson-Newman traded baskets with Duke over the next four minutes before the Blue Devils closed out the half with a 30-17 run, taking a 62-29 advantage into the intermission.
Duke's offense continued to click in the second half, with the Blue Devils hitting their first eight shots of the period in an 18-3 run to open the stanza. Duke never looked back, cruising to the 56-point victory. Scheer and Liston paced the Blue Devil offense in the second half with 10 and 11 points, respectively.
Defensively, Wells led the Blue Devils with nine steals as Duke registered 26 takeaways, compared to four by the Eagles.
The Blue Devils open the 2010-11 regular season next Saturday, Nov. 13, at home against Brigham Young. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
