DURHAM, N.C. -The Duke swimming and diving head coach

Drew Johansen, announced the signing of three incoming freshmen -- Alexandria Horn of Roanoke, Va., Megan McCarroll of Portland, Ore., and Katherine Plevka of Charlotte, N.C. -- for the 2011-2012 season.
“We are thrilled to have these quality young ladies joining the program next
season," said head coach
Dan Colella. "Each has competed at a very high level and has demonstrated that they
can compete with the best. Each one of them will add substantially to our
current team's depth both at the conference and national level. Their current
times are extremely competitive within the ACC and they will be impact swimmers
for us right away.”
Ali Horn is a NISCA High School All-American from Roanoke, Va. In her first three years at The Cave Springs High School (alma mater of Duke basketball stand out, J.J. Redick), the senior has captured five individual state titles in the freestyle, butterfly and IM events. As a member of the Virginia Gators Swim Team, Horn holds 31 team records. Horn was the 2009 and 2010 Timesland Swimmer of the Year, and participated in the 2009 World Championships Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. She comes to the Blue Devils ranked fifth in the state of Virginia, according to collegeswimming.com, and intends to major in pre-med at Duke University. Ali chose to attend Duke over conference rival, University of Virginia.
Megan McCarroll, a product of Portland, Ore., competes in the backstroke and butterfly events. The NISCA High School All-American placed first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke at the 6A 2009 Oregon High School State Championships, and was selected as a member of the 2010 Scholastic All-America team. McCarroll is the daughter of Shelia and Connor McCarroll, who both swam for the University of Michigan. Brother, Connor, currently a sophomore, swims at the University of Michigan. McCarroll is ranked sixth in the state of Oregon, according to collegeswimming.com. She chose to attend Duke over the University of Michigan.
Katherine Plevka is a Charlotte, N.C. native, who ranks 17th in the state, according to collegeswimming.com. The NISCA High School All-American swimmer and state record holder in the 200 IM, was also named the Southern Carolina Conference Swimmer of the Year. Plevka is a Duke legacy, who's grandfather, grandmother, and great-grandfather all attended Duke. Plevka also swam at Junior Nationals this past summer. She will add more depth to the breaststroke and IM events for the Blue Devils.
Horn, McCarroll and Plevka will officially become Blue Devils in August of 2011.
