COLLEGE PARK, M.D. - Duke picked up its second win this season over an ACC opponent, defeating Maryland, 5-2, in College Park this afternoon. The Blue Devils concluded their weekend road trip, 3-0.
The Blue Devils won the first match point by sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Dylan Arnould and David Holland took down Tommy Laine and Jesse Kiuru of Maryland, 8-6.
On court two, the 44th-ranked pair of Alain Michel and Torsten Wietoska won a convincing 8-0 match over Ian Mansfield and Sergio Wyss. Duke finished doubles play with Reid Carleton and Jared Pinsky earning an 8-2 win over John Collins and Ryan Lissner at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Luke Marchese gave Duke a 2-0 lead in the overall match with his win at No. 6 singles. Marchese beat Lissner 6-4, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, 79th-ranked Arnould won a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Kiuru. Arnould gave Duke the 3-0 lead.
Maryland got its first team point on court four, where Wyss won a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 match over Holland.
Down after dropping the first set 3-6, Pinsky battled back to beat Mathias Sarrazin of Maryland, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Pinsky's win secured the match for Duke, putting them ahead, 4-1.
Wietoska put Duke up, 5-1, with his 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Collins. The final match of the day was a back-and-forth event, with No. 124 Laine winning a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 match over No. 118 Carleton.
Duke will return to action against N.C. State in Raleigh on March 31 at 2:30 p.m.
