KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Jessica Lyden and redshirt junior Shawn Hoffman saw action on day one of the 2012 USA Diving Winter Nationals Thursday, with both competing in the preliminary qualifying rounds of the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter events.

On the 3-meter board, Lyden notched a sixth-place finish with a score of 256.15 in the finals. The Lexington, Ky., native qualified for the quarterfinal round as one of the top six finishers in the event.

Hoffman, a product of North Tonawanda, N.Y., faced a competitive field in the men's 1-meter event Thursday. He finished 20th overall with a season-best score of 276.25 to just miss advancing to the quarterfinals.

Both Lyden and Hoffman return to the boards Friday in the preliminaries of the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter events. The quarterfinals of the USA Diving Winter National begin Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Complex.
