Approximately 200 wrestlers representing up to 17 schools are slated to compete. The double-elimination, non-team scoring tournament will feature 32-man brackets in each of the 10 weight classes. Admission is free to the public.
Leading Duke heading into the weekend is redshirt freshman Brandon Gambucci. He recently earned a No. 31 national ranking by WrestlingReport.com at 133 pounds. The Mansfield, Ohio native is 10-5 overall on the year and has collected three top-four finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Hokie Open. He is coming off of a fourth-place finish at the Keystone Classic.
Redshirt junior Peter Terrezza takes an 8-5 record at 125 pounds into the competition. He recently advanced to the consolation quarterfinal at the Keystone Classic and took third at the Wolfpack Open. Redshirt freshman Immanuel Kerr-Brown will line up at 149 pounds with a 10-4 overall record. He took home the title at The Citadel Open to start the year and started the year 7-0 before going 3-4 in the past seven matches.
Redshirt junior Andrew Fulk returns to the lineup at heavyweight after an injury. His lone competition of the year came at the Hokie Open where he went 2-2. At 174 pounds, freshman Randy Roden looks to add a few more wins to his total. He sports an 8-5 overall record in the three events this season.
Sophomores Brian Self and Ryan Harding look to continue to build on their 4-4 and 6-6 starts to the year, respectively. Self, at 197 pounds, has competed in two events this year, while Harding moved up to 165 pounds this year and most recently went 2-2 at the Keystone Classic.
There are a host of wrestlers competing unattached this weekend. Freshmen Marcus Cain and Conner Hartmann highlight the group with both having outstanding starts. Cain is 11-2 overall at 149 pounds and most recently brought home top honors from the Pembroke Classic. Hartmann, competing at 197 pounds, is coming off of a title-winning performance at the Pembroke Classic and is 13-2 overall for the year. He has finished among the top three in each of his tournament outings this year.
This will be Duke's final competition of the calendar year. Duke will compete again in the Southern Scuffle, Jan. 1.
