McCrory and Boudia notched a score of 898.53 on two lists of dives, including a 93.06-point effort on their reverse 3 ½ tuck in the finals round Tuesday evening at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Complex. The duo also recorded a score of 97.20 in the morning preliminaries on a back 2 ½ with 2 ½ twists, and led the field by an impressive 82.23 points heading into the finals.
"Today was a good mental exercise for us," McCrory said. "This will set us up well for the rest of the year."
Steele Johnson and Dashiell Enos took second behind McCrory and Boudia with a score of 762.51, while Toby Stanley and Johnson scored 755.82 points to finish third. McCrory and Boudia automatically earn a spot on the 2012 FINA World Cup team with their first-place performance.
Abby Johnston also saw her first action of the Winter National Championships Tuesday, as she took to the 3-meter board in the quarterfinals of the event. Johnston posted a score of 300.10 to finish ninth in the field of 34, ensuring her a spot in Wednesday's semifinal round. Duke senior Jessica Lyden also competed in the event, finishing 20th with a score of 264.30.
The 2012 USA Diving Winter Nationals continue Wednesday with the semifinals and finals of the women's 3-meter springboard competition, as well as the quarterfinals of the men's platform and the finals of the men's 1-meter event.
