ATLANTA, Ga. - The 2011 Women's ACC Swimming and Diving Championships got underway on Wednesday, with the 200 medley and 800 free relays.
North Carolina currently holds first after posting top finishes (first and second) in both events. Both the Tar Heels and second place Virginia, set record-breaking performances at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center to start off competition Wednesday night.
The Blue Devils currently stand tied for sixth place after day one with 50 points. The Duke women grabbed a sixth place finish in the 200 medley relay. The freshman and junior team of Meghan Dwyer, Christine Wixted, Steffi Niessl and Lauren Weaver set an NCAA B standard time of 1:41.28.
But it was the upperclassmen team of Ashley Twichell, Katie Magee, Rose O'Connor and Meghan Dwyer that powered through the 800 free relay, finishing in seventh with a time of 7:24.74, shaving off over a second from their time at last year's ACCs.

Thursday's competition opens with the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter diving events, as well as the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 free relay.
