IOWA CITY, IOWA - After the closing day of competition at the 2011 USA Winter Diving Championships, the Duke divers returned home with a national title under their belt.
Sophomore Nick McCrory finished second on Sunday in the 10-meter platform event with a score of 545.15. McCrory was narrowly beaten out by synchro partner, David Boudia, of Purdue University. Coincidentally, it was McCrory who claimed the 2010 NCAA Platform title over Boudia, who had been a favorite in the event.
After another top showing in the preliminaries, Abby Johnston claimed fourth in the 3-meter springboard finals with a 332.25.
McCrory and Johnston's top finishes in the synchronized and individual events, grabbed them both NCAA Zone Qualifying scores, as well as being named to the AT&T Grand Prix team and they will go on to phase two of the selection process for the 2011 World Championships team.
The Duke divers will rejoin their fellow Blue Devils as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the Women's and Men's ACC Championships Wednesday, Feb. 16-Saturday, Feb. 19, and Wednesday, Feb. 23-Saturday, Feb. 26.
