ATHENS, GA. - The Duke divers had no problems in day two of the NCAA Zone B Championships in Athens, Ga., on Friday, grabbing first place finishes on both sides.
The women opened competition on the one-meter springboard, where junior Abby Johnston did not disappoint. Johnston prelimed first on the boards, and grabbed the gold in the finals with a score of 628.35. This was the second consecutive year that Johnston placed first at zones on the one-meter.
On the men's side, Duke sophomore Nick McCrory worked out the kinks from a fifth place finish on Thursday and picked up an easy first on the three-meter in Friday's competition. McCrory was the only diver to come out of the preliminary round with more than 400 points, and finished as the only diver with 800 points (876.65). Also picking up a top 10 finish was junior Cody Kolodziejzyk who finished with a score of 701.70, breaking 700 at Zones for the first time in his collegiate career.
The 2011 Zone Diving Championships end on Saturday with the platform diving events.
