DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke University wrestling team traded in their wrestling shoes for running shoes and took to the Streets at Southpoint in Durham early Saturday morning to support the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program in its second annual Spring for Support 5k race. Blue Devil senior Dylan Ryan led the way in the race by taking second overall and first in his age group.
Redshirt freshman Alexander Belaia-Martiniouk has been one of the driving forces in getting Duke involved in the program with the Duke Cancer Institute.
“We believe in the purpose of this run,” said Belaia-Martiniouk. “Several of the guys on the team have had people in their lives affected by cancer. Also, Duke Wrestling is a team that has a strong brotherhood and team emphasis. We understand that there is strength in numbers. We were very excited to run in support of Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.”
The Duke wrestling team's participation in the Spring for Support 5k is the latest community service activity the Blue Devils have been a part of this year. They are active in both the Durham and Duke communities, volunteering at the Durham Rescue Mission, leading in the Athlete Ally group on campus, as well as a variety of other ventures.

The Duke Cancer Patient Support Program provides services and resources to help support patients and their loved ones. Services include individual, couple and family therapy, support groups, self-image resources, pet therapy, child-life services, recreational therapy and more.
The Blue Devils had a record-setting year on the mat in 2014-15, finishing 11-5 overall and taking fourth at the ACC Championship. Duke defeated a pair of Big Ten foes for the first time in program history and sent a program-best five wrestlers to the NCAA Championship. Redshirt junior Conner Hartmann took sixth overall to capture his second All-America award.
