DURHAM, N.C. – Coming off of a strong opening weekend at a quad meet in Christiansburg, Va., the Blue Devil men's and women's swimming and diving teams host their first home meet of the season Saturday in Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion. Duke welcomes the NC State women and Northwestern men in a tri meet beginning with diving at 10 a.m. The remainder of the meet will continue at 11 a.m.
Saturday marks the Blue Devils' Breast Cancer Awareness Meet as well as Alumni Weekend.
Last Time Out The Duke women started the season 3-0 with victories over West Virginia, William & Mary and host Virginia Tech in a two-day quad meet Oct. 21-22. The squad was bolstered by individual victories in seven events, as well as two relay wins.
Senior Maddie Rusch led the way with first-place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, while also competing on Duke's winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Rusch headlined one-two-three finishes by the Blue Devils in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and earned NCAA 'B' cuts in both performances. Fellow senior Ashleigh Shanley also contributed a pair of individual victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
The Blue Devil men turned in a 2-1 weekend in Christiansburg, topping the Mountaineers and the Tribe but falling to the Hokies. Sophomore Max St. George recorded a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke and took second at the 200-yard distance while leading off the winning 200 and 400 medley relays. He was joined on both winning relays by senior Peter Kropp, who won the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA 'B' cut of 54.63. On the boards, freshman Nathaniel Hernandez impressed in his collegiate debut, winning the men's 1-meter springboard competition and taking second on the 3-meter.
Blue Devils Represented in First National Poll Following their 3-0 season-opening performance, the Duke women earned a top-20 ranking in the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America/TYR Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll of the season Tuesday. The Blue Devils came in at No. 19 and were one of six ACC squads listed in the initial women's rankings.
The Blue Devil men received votes in the CSCAA poll, sitting one place out of the top 25.

Swimmers Recount Summer Experiences with ACE Program Four Duke swimmers had the opportunity to take part in the inaugural Rubenstein-Bing Student-Athlete Civic Engagement Program (ACE) over the summer, traveling to different areas of the world for three-week, immersive service experiences.
Senior Michael Millerand junior Maria Sheridanhelped teach and coach youth in India, with their program focusing on educational and leadership development through sports and English lessons. To watch a recap of their ACE in India trip, click here.

Scouting the Wolfpack The NC State women were tabbed No. 4 in the CSCAA poll Tuesday for the highest ranking in program history. The ranking came after the squad earned a 200-149 win over Wisconsin in its season opener last weekend.
Wolfpack swimmer Hannah Moore was selected the National Female Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com, while teammate Alexia Zevnik was listed as the website's ACC Female Swimmer of the Week. Moore owns the nation's best time to date in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:00.23) and is fifth in the country in the 400 IM (4:14.37) while Zevnik tops the ACC in the 200 IM (2:00.27). NC State also boasts the top time in the ACC in the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.34), followed by Duke at 3:22.91.
Scouting the Wildcats The Northwestern men swept a quad dual meet at the University of Chicago last weekend, defeating UIC, Olivet Nazarene and the University of Chicago. The squad also earned a victory over Eastern Michigan in its season opener to enter Saturday's meet with a 4-0 ledger.
Senior Jordan Willimovsky is tops the Big Ten in the 1,000 freestyle (9:05.29) and is fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:27.02). Sophomore Justin Hanson also owns one of the conference's top performances to date in the 200 butterfly (1:50.13).
The Wildcats take on NC State Friday evening in Raleigh before making the trip over to Durham Saturday.
Meet Promotions Fans are encouraged to help turn Taishoff pink in honor of Duke's Breast Cancer Awareness Meet Saturday. The meet also marks Alumni Weekend for former Blue Devil swimmers and divers.
The first 50 Duke students in attendance Saturday will receive free t-shirts and Halloween candy.
