DURHAM, N.C. – After turning in a pair of third-place finishes over the weekend at the NC State GAC Invite, the Blue Devil men and women were both ranked in the latest national poll released by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The women were ranked for the third straight time, coming in at No. 20, while the men made their first appearance of the season in the top 25 at No. 22.
The Duke squads went up against a competitive field last weekend in Greensboro, with the women finishing third behind only No. 6 NC State and then-No. 20 North Carolina and the men taking third behind the top-ranked Wolfpack and then-No. 21 Notre Dame.
Sophomore diver Evan Moretti was tabbed the ACC Male Diver of the Week Tuesday for his performance at the GAC Invite. Moretti won the 1-meter springboard event with a career-best award of 365.70 in the finals and placed top-three on the platform in addition to surpassing the NCAA Zones qualification standard in all three events.
Senior Peter Kropp added a first-place finish for the Blue Devil men in the 100-yard breaststroke while junior Leah Goldman broke program records in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM and senior Brittany Friese reset the school benchmark in the 200 freestyle. Senior Maddie Rusch matched the school record in the 100 freestyle and the Duke women also featured record-breaking performances in the 800 freestyle and 400 medley relays.
The Blue Devil women were one of seven ACC squads listed among the top 25 of the CSCAA poll, joining No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 NC State, No. 9 Louisville, No. 16 North Carolina, No. 23 Notre Dame and No. 25 Virginia Tech. On the men's side, Duke was ranked along with No. 1 NC State, No. 3 Louisville, No. 14 Notre Dame, No. 15 Georgia Tech and No. 21 Virginia Tech out of the ACC.
The Blue Devil men and women compete next Saturday, Dec. 3 in a dual meet at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C.
