DURHAM, N.C. — Coming off helping lead the Blue Devils to wins over East Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast University, Duke University freshman Miela Goodchild was named ACC Rookie of the Week Monday by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
A native of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Goodchild averaged 17.0 points, 2.5 steals, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over the two contests.
Goodchild collected a career-high 19 points, matched a career high with four steals, three assists and four rebounds against East Carolina. She drained 4-of-7 treys and 5-of-8 field goals in the 83-66 win. On Sunday, she added 15 points, one assist and one steal in 35 minutes against FGCU. She hit 3-of-5 three-pointers and hit 5-of-8 field goals.
The 5-10 guard leads Duke with 26 three-pointers on the year and ranks tied seventh nationally with a 50.0 three-point field goal percentage. It is also the best by any rookie in the nation.
North Carolina's Janelle Bailey was selected the ACC Player of the Week.
Duke will open ACC play Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m., as the Blue Devils visit ninth-ranked NC State in Raleigh, N.C. The contest will be aired live on Regional Sports Network.
