TULSA, Okla. – The junior doubles duo of
Michael Heller and
Andrew Zhang led Duke during the opening day of action at the 2021 ITA All-American Championships.

The pair advances to Tuesday's final round of qualifying play and will meet up against Ivailo Keremedchiev and Jesper Klov-Nilsson of Oregon at 4 p.m. CT at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa. If they win that contest, they will advance to the main draw.Â
Heller and Zhang defeated South Florida's Rithvik Bollipalli and Chase Ferguson in their opening match on Monday 7-6 (4), 7-5 . A few hours later, the duo bested Marino Jakic and Vito Tonejc of DePaul 6-2, 6-3 to move on in the tournament.

In singles action, junior
Garrett Johns defeated Texas Tech's Ilgiz Valiev 6-1, 6-2 to advance to Tuesday's second round of qualifying play. The Atlanta, Ga., native will next meet up against Chris Rodesch of Virginia at 8 a.m. CT at the Case Tennis Center in LaFortune Park. If he wins that match, he will advance to the final round of qualifying action and vie for a spot in the main draw.Â
Graduate student
Sean Sculley and Zhang also competed in the singles qualifying first round. Sculley dropped a 6-3, 7-6 (5) decision to Pepperdine's Eric Hadigian, while Zhang fell to Francois Musitelli of Kentucky 6-1, 6-2.

Both will play in the qualifying consolation round on Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT. Sculley will compete against Joao Ceolin of UTSA, while Zhang will battle Florida's Abedallah Shelbayh.
