DURHAM – No. 13 Duke (15-3) is set for the 2022 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament beginning Friday with No. 25 Johns Hopkins (10-8). Opening draw is slated for 3 p.m., on ESPN+ in College Park, Md.

Duke and Johns Hopkins meet for the ninth time in program history as the Blue Devils own a dominant 7-1 lead in the all-time series.
DUKE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Duke makes its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and its second consecutive. The Blue Devils own a 26-20 overall record on the big stage that includes 16 quarterfinal and seven semifinal appearances. Under the direction of head coach
Kerstin Kimel, the program is 15-3 in first-round play, having won 12 consecutive first-round matchups. Duke last made the semifinals in 2015 and owns a 12-game win streak in first-round games. The Blue Devils have reached the quarterfinals in 12 of their past 13 appearances and the semifinals in six of their past 13.
SCOUTING THE BLUE JAYS
The Blue Jays enter Friday's contest 10-8 overall and are coming off a 14-6 loss to No. 3 Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament last weekend. Offensively, Johns Hopkins is led by Shelby Harrison (43 pts.), Madison McPherson (36 pts.) Georgia Esmond (36 pts.) and Maeve Barker (33 pts.). The Blue Jays are averaging 11.17 goals per game and 29.40 shots per game. Johns Hopkins has been steady with its use of Kathleen Garvey in cage with over 1,000 minutes accumulated this season. She owns a 10.63 GAA and a .451 save percentage.

Duke and Johns Hopkins meet for the ninth time in program history as the Blue Devils own a dominant 7-1 lead in the all-time series. The two squads last met May 3, 2015 in regular-season action. Fourth-ranked Duke battled back after falling behind to 18th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 9-1. However, the early deficit proved too much in a 9-8 loss to the Blue Jays.
COACHING POWERHOUSES
This weekend's NCAA first and second-round games feature three coaching powerhouses in
Kerstin Kimel, Cathy Reese (Maryland) and Janine Tucker (Johns Hopkins). The trio has combined for nearly 30 years in Division I athletics and has set the standard for the lacrosse world on and off the field. Kimel, Reese and Tucker have won 974 combined contests at the helm of their programs. Tucker announced 2022 will be her final season.
UP NEXT
Should Duke advance out of the first-round game, the Blue Devils will take on No. 2 Maryland Sunday at 2:30 p.m., on ESPN+. Duke last met Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago and captured a 13-12 victory in Durham.
