Sophomore Madison Beach has been excellent on set pieces and in open play with a team-best six assists.
Â
Blue Devils vs Eagles
- Duke and Boston College meet for the 29th time with the Blue Devils holding a 16-12 edge in the series. Both teams picked up a win last season, as the Eagles bested Duke in a shootout in the ACC Championship semifinals. The Blue Devils are 2-1 in the past three matchups, but BC had won four straight prior to 2023.
- Each of the past four meetings have come by a single goal, with two going into overtime. In the 12 contests between Boston College and Duke under the current head coaches, only two have been decided by more than one goal. Four of the 12 have gone into overtime and two pushed to a shootout. Duke is 5-3 in Newton under Pam Bustin.
Â
Blue Devils at Huskies
- Duke takes on Connecticut for just the sixth time in series' hist and only the third time in the past 15 seasons. The Blue Devils are 4-1 against the Huskies with the lone loss coming in the 2014 NCAA Championship title game. Â
Â
Can't Score If They Can't Shoot   Â
- Duke's defense has been pretty stellar all season. The Blue Devils rank second in the ACC and fifth nationally with a 0.82 goals against average. Part of Duke's success defensively is that the Blue Devils don't allow their opponents even the chance to score, allowing just 6.0 shots per game. The six shots per game average is the second lowest nationally, with Liberty holding their opponents to just 5.7 per game.
- Duke held Louisville to only two shots - the fewest by an ACC foe since keeping Syracuse without a look at the cage in 2018. Against No. 2 Virginia, the Blue Devils held the Cavaliers without a shot for 50:48, spanning three-plus quarters.
- Duke is allowing just 3.25 penalty corners per game, the second fewest behind Liberty's 2.82 per game average.
Â
Duke's Circle Defense        Â
- A key to Duke's defensive success has been its ability to not give up penalty corners. The Blue Devils are second nationally in defensive penalty corners per game (3.25). Duke has allowed opponents to score five goals on 39 penalty corner opportunities for an 87 percent success rate on the set pieces.
Â
Offensive Penalty Corner Success           Â
- Duke has found some success on penalty corners, scoring 11 times off 62 PCs (18 percent). The Blue Devils have tallied goals in a variety of manners, finding the players on the post while also getting a quartet of goals off drag flicks from the top by Julia Boehringer.
Â
Kaiya in the Cage     Â
- In her first season as the starter in goal, sophomore Kaiya Chepow looks right at home. She currently ranks second in the ACC and sixth nationally with a 0.88 goals against average. Since giving up four goals in her first career start, Chepow has allowed just six goals in 11 contests for a 0.58 goals against average in that span.
- The 0.88 goals against average would rank tied for third in Duke single season history. A Duke goalie has posted a GAA under 1.00 four times in program history.
Next Game
- Duke returns home for a final time of the regular season next weekend, hosting No. 5 Wake Forest Oct. 24 and Old Dominion Oct. 26. The Blue Devils will celebrate the seniors and graduate students after the game against the Monarchs.
