DURHAM, N.C. – For the second time this season and the third time in her collegiate career, Duke women's soccer standout
Mia Minestrella has been tabbed the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
She was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week as well as one of six nominees for the Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches Player of the Week. Fans can go
here to vote for Minestrella through Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
Minestrella collected a hat trick Friday on the road at SMU, helping lead sixth-ranked Duke to a 5-0 victory in Dallas. It marked her second hat trick of the season and fourth game of her career with three or more goals.
She scored in the ninth minute to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead and then tallied goals in the 59th and 66th minutes as the Blue Devils cruised to the ACC victory. Minestrella, who hails from Redondo Beach, California, accomplished this feat in just 57 minutes with two of her three goals coming on headers. She also notched the game-winning goal, the 11th of her career, tying her for sixth on Duke's all-time list.
Minestrella has now scored a goal in 11 of her last 13 true road matches. Her 15 goals this season are tied for the ACC lead and her 45 career goals are two shy of the Duke career record of 47, held by Kelly Walbert.
She has scored a goal in each of the last three matches and previously recorded a six-game scoring streak earlier this year.
Duke will next host NC State Saturday, Oct. 24, at 5 p.m., inside Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium. It will also mark senior day for the Blue Devils.
