DURHAM, N.C. – Third-ranked Duke tallied two first-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over No. 1 Stanford Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium in Durham.

Junior Katie Shea Collins registered a goal and an assist on Duke's first two scores and finished the day with a goal and two assists for four points to pace the Blue Devils. Sophomore Avery Oder collected her first brace of her collegiate career, while senior Mia Minestrella scored for the fifth game in a row to lead Duke's scoring attack.

Sophomore Molly Vapensky collected her first collegiate shutout as she finished with a career-high five saves over 90 minutes in goal.

The Blue Devils notched their third win in program history against a top-ranked team, while Stanford dropped to 5-1-1 on the year. Duke improved to 7-0-1 and won its 13th consecutive home match.

How It Happened

Stanford attempted the first shot of the match in the eighth minute, but Duke goalkeeper Molly Vapensky made the save.
The Blue Devils made their first shot attempt of the match count at the 14:14 mark as seniors Sam Bodensteiner and Mia Oliaro found junior Katie Shea Collins on the left side of the box. Collins, who hails from Gallatin, Tennessee, beat her defender and then placed a perfect ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give Duke a 1-0 lead.
Duke added a second goal in the 36th minute to go ahead, 2-0. Freshman Yuna Marui fed a long pass down the pitch to a streaking senior Mia Minestrella. A product of Redondo Beach, California, Minestrella took a couple of touches, cut back and found Collins at the top of the box. Collins placed a perfect pass to sophomore Avery Oder, who was moving towards the goal, and one-timed it with her left foot into the bottom right of the net.
At the end of the first half, Duke held a 5-3 shot advantage with Oder leading the way with two.
Stanford came out in the second half and had a great look at goal, but Vapensky made a great diving stop on Jaden Thomas' shot attempt less than two minutes in.
The Blue Devils had a good look in the 49th minute as Oliaro stole the ball in the midfield and fed a streaking Minestrella toward the box. Stanford keeper Rhiannon Stewart charged at Minestrella, and her attempt went just wide right.
Duke went ahead, 3-0, at the 51:22 mark as senior Cameron Roller sent a long pass across midfield to Collins, who sent a pass between two Cardinal defenders to Marui. A native of Osaka, Japan, Marui beat the defenders and then used her left foot to tap the ball into the goal over a sliding Stanford keeper. It marked Marui's first collegiate goal.
Courtwright and Marui featured some outstanding passing to find Minestrella on the right side of the box. She curled her body around and one-timed a right-footed shot into the upper 90 of the left side of the goal past Stewart in the 59th minute to put Duke ahead, 4-0.
Stanford had a shot off a corner kick that was saved by senior Phoebe Goldthwaite in the 75th minute to preserve the shutout.
At the 78:51 mark, Collins was taken down in the box and after a coaches' challenge a penalty was awarded to the Blue Devils. Oder, who is from Calabasas, California, stepped up and finished the penalty kick to give Duke a 5-0 lead.
Duke held a 13-12 shot advantage on the afternoon.

Duke notched its 10th goal of the season in the first 15 minutes of the match.
The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents, 18-0, in the first half this season.
Duke's five goals marked the most against a No. 1 team in program history.
The Blue Devils totaled their third all-time win against a No. 1 team and the first since Oct. 24, 2021 against Florida State (1-0). Both matches were at home. Duke notched its fourth shutout in program history against a No. 1 team and the first since 2021.
Katie Shea Collins has scored a goal in five games in a row and now owns six on the year. She has totaled 29 for her career.
Collins tied a career high with two assists on the afternoon. She has scored or assisted in six of Duke's seven matches played.
Senior Mia Oliaro made her first start of the season and assisted on Collins' goal in the 15th minute. It marked her 26th assist as a Blue Devil and 27th assist of her career.
Avery Oder totaled her fourth and fifth goals of the year and owns 11 in her collegiate career. She has scored or assisted in six of the seven matches this year. It marked her first multi-goal performance of her career.
Mia Minestrella tallied a goal for the 10th time out of the last 12 games dating back to last year, including five games in a row.
Minestrella now has scored 39 career goals to move into a tie for third on Duke's all-time charts and her three points on the day moved her into fourth on Duke's all-time points list with 94.
In 41 career home matches, Minestrella has now scored 29 goals.
Sam Courtwright collected her sixth assist of the season and has scored or assisted in five of the seven games this year.
Redshirt sophomore Lauren Martinho made her first appearance of the season.
Duke showed no rust after being off for 12 days without games.
Duke improved to 29-1-2 at home over the last three years.
Sophomore Molly Vapensky totaled her first collegiate shutout and had a career-high five saves.
Duke collected four or more goals against a top-10 ranked opponent for the fifth time in program history – #1 Stanford (5-0, Sept. 13, 2026), #7 Stanford (4-1, Oct. 11, 2024), #8 Marquette (5-2, Sept. 9, 2012), #3 West Virginia (4-0, Sept. 8, 2017), #9 Clemson (4-1, Oct. 13, 2019).
