WHAT TO KNOW:
- Duke returns 38 letterwinners from its 2025-26 squad – 20 men and 18 women – headlined by a pair of All-America selections in sophomore Abdelrahman Tolba and senior Charlotte Koenig. Tolba garnered a spot on the second team after placing eighth at NCAAs, with Koenig collecting honorable mention status with a 12th-place showing.
- Head coach Omar Elgeziry enters his fourth season leading the Blue Devils. During the 2025-26 campaign, he guided the Duke men to the program's third ACC Tournament title and a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Fencing Championship, and the women's squad to a runner-up ACC finish and 11th place at the national meet.
- In last season's head-to-head meeting, the Blue Devil men swept the final three épée bouts to propel themselves to a thrilling, 14-13 victory over the Tar Heels. On the women's side, Duke's foil squad turned in a solid performance with a 5-4 triumph, but UNC's 7-2 victory at sabre proved to be too much to overcome, as North Carolina claimed the 16-11 decision.
