DURHAM, N.C. – For the second time in as many meetings this season, the Duke men's tennis team defeated NC State. This time, the No. 59 Blue Devils blanked the No. 19 Wolfpack, 4-0, on Friday evening at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.Â
Dylan Long and Alexander Visser came away with the deciding doubles victory on court three in a tiebreaker, setting the stage for the singles sweep by Long, Pedro Rodenas and Cooper Williams. The victory marks the third consecutive against the Wolfpack, and in all three NC State was the higher ranked of the two.Â
Duke is now 9-10 overall and 4-5 in ACC action while NC State dips to 15-3 and 7-2 in league play. Â

"I'm really happy for the guys. What a great effort from start to finish, starting with a doubles point. Obviously, we played some new teams that kind of injected some new energy into all six guys. I felt like we came here on a mission. Our guys were super motivated and unified. Obviously, that's a really good team. They've lost just twice the whole year before today, once to us and once to Virginia when it was No. 1 in the country. I have a lot of respect for them. They're awfully tough. We were trying to rebound from some tough losses and try to figure out what we need to do better. We really stayed unified, did not play the blame game and had a really good week of practice. Dylan, in particular, was the biggest difference. He served amazing and played amazing. For him to get a quick win like that really motivated everyone.
"We needed new energy and it actually came from the one team. They're on pace to be, arguably, one of the best teams in the country and All-Americans, but they're willing to kind of sacrifice that and to help us win a double point. Teddy really stepped up big time with Cooper. Gerard and Pedro just got off to a little bit of a tough start, but I thought played well. Dylan and Visser, who has been injured, won a big, big tiebreaker. But win or lose a double score, I just felt better about it with what we put out there and the energy we had." - Duke head coach Ramsey Smith
"I think everyone today came out with a lot of energy. We beat this team earlier in the season in one of our first matches. They're a very good team. They're very competitive. They fight really hard. We knew we were going to have to just kind of up the anti a little in all aspects of the game - energy level, composure, all of it. We did an amazing job. We got a foot in the door in doubles and got up early. Credit to Visser and Dylan for closing the doubles point out.
"From then on, we just had just had all the momentum. We ran away with that match. I'm just really proud of the guys. I was happy to do my part today.
"I feel great. I'm really happy with the way I'm playing right now. I think there's been a lot of improvement. I've been proud of myself for getting out there and showing my best and doing everything I can to help our team." - Duke's Cooper Williams
