DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis program announced Thursday the signing of world No. 3 Yannick Alexandrescou to the class of 2030. Alexandrescou's signing completes the Blue Devil class as he joins Sebastian Eie, Ludvig Hede and Jakub Smejcky.
"We are thrilled for Yannick to be joining Duke men's tennis," assistant coach TJ Pura said. "He embodies all the qualities of highly successful student-athletes: sharp, resilient, growth-oriented and industrious. His experience competing and excelling on the world's largest stages, including all four grand slams, will prepare him very well for the pressure-packed moments of college tennis. Most of all, Yannick is obsessed with competing and unlocking every avenue possible to improve."Â
A native of Bucharest, Romania, Alexandrescou holds a current ITF Junior singles world ranking of No. 3 with a career high of No. 2, set in January 2026.Â
"Joining Duke University is an incredible opportunity to grow academically, personally and as a future leader," Alexandrescou said. "My goal is to live a life without regrets by always giving 100 percent and striving to become a better person every day. Duke is the perfect place to develop both as a tennis player and as a person. I can't wait to get started with the team."Â
A proven winner, Alexandrescou has taken part in all four grand slams at the junior level, reaching the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in June 2025, the round of 16 at Roland Garros in June 2026 and the round of 32 at Wimbledon in July 2025. He will compete again at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2026.Â
"Yannick is a tremendous addition to the program," Pura added. "We are very excited to watch him grow and develop as a student-athlete over his four years at Duke."
Alexandrescou, who holds an ATP world ranking of 952, claimed four junior singles titles in 2025 and two runner-up finishes, including at the World Tour Junior Finals in Chengdu, China. He has won career 14 ITF singles titles and five ITF doubles crowns.
"I could not be prouder or more excited for this special group of incoming freshmen," head coach Ramsey Smith said. "These four high-character workhorses have collectively bought into our vision and are eager to put in the work to develop here at Duke. The future is very bright. We can't wait for Ludvig, Sebastian, Jakub and Yannick to start competing for Duke this fall!"Â
Duke recently completed its season by making its sixth consecutive NCAA Team Championship appearance and 33rd overall.Â
