JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Former Duke men's golfer William Love captured the 120th Southern Amateur Championship by three strokes Saturday at Atlanta Athletic Club.
The Atlanta native carded rounds of 65, 65 and 68 to finish the 54-hole championship at 12-under 198. Zackary Swanwick of New Zealand placed second at 9-under 201.
With the victory, Love added his name to the George W. Adair Trophy and received the championship's silver medal and Calamity Jane Putter. He also earned a five-year exemption into the Southern Amateur Championship, beginning in 2027, and an exemption into the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship, scheduled for Aug. 10-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
Love concluded his Duke career ranked sixth in program history with a 71.97 stroke average. He was voted to the All-ACC Team as a senior, earned NCAA Division I PING All-East Region recognition three times and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in each of his four years. Love graduated from Duke in May with a bachelor's degree in economics.
