RALEIGH, N.C. – After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Duke men's soccer eventually dropped a conference match, 3-1, at NC State. The Blue Devils (2-4, 0-2 ACC) took a lead halfway through the opening frame off the foot of Jack Ottley but could not hold the lead following intermission.

Ottley scored his second goal of his freshman campaign, increasing his point total to eight, while Ulfur Bjornsson was credited with the assist and leads the team with nine total points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Duke had a pair of early chances, with Logan Moniz barely missing the post on his first shot, followed by a save by the NC State goalkeeper from close distance on another attempt by Moniz.
The Blue Devils continued to generate chances, with Jack Ottley breaking through in the 27th minute following an assist by Ulfur Bjornsson. Ottley received the pass on the wing and dribbled into the 18-yard box through contact before burying a right-footed shot to the far corner.
The hosts earned six corners in the opening 45 minutes, but Duke's defense allowed just one shot on goal, which was turned away by Nathan Gaviser, as the Blue Devils took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Wolfpack equalized shortly into the second half, tapping in a loose ball at the back post.
Gaviser kept the score level in the 66th minute, parrying away a blast from 12 yards away. The hosts eventually took the lead, scoring in transition 10 minutes later, and added a third and final goal with just under nine minutes remaining in the match.

Duke returns home after a two-match road trip, hosting Queens on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Blue Devils (2-4) and Royals (1-4) kick off at 7 p.m. at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium.
