DURHAM, N.C. – Three goals in the second half powered Duke men's soccer past Howard, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium. A pair of freshmen scored the first two goals, including Kai Aina's first collegiate tally, while Sol Arbib rounded out the second-half surge. Ethan Congleton opened the scoring for the Blue Devils (4-5), breaking the ice just three minutes into the second frame.

Duke logged a season-high 25 total shots, with 14 of those registering on goal, while holding the visitors to just one shot across the full 90 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Duke started the game on the front foot, forcing a pair of saves by Howard inside the first 10 minutes.
The Blue Devils continued to control the run of play, holding a majority of possession and outpacing the visitors in shots, 8-0, through 25 minutes of action.
The visitors took the lead, 1-0, with a shot from outside the 18-yard box in the 36th minute.
Duke leveled the score three minutes into the second half, with Ethan Congleton finding the back of the net off an assist by Logan Moniz.
The physicality began to pick up as the game continued to evolve in the second half, with neither team finding a strong scoring opportunity as the clock wound past the 60-minute mark.
Kai Aina put the Blue Devils in the lead in the 64th minute, tucking a right-footed shot into the far corner in transition.
Duke's offense continued to threaten throughout the remainder of the match and added a third goal in the 79th minute, courtesy of Sol Arbib. The striker flicked in a cross off the foot of Max Steelman, with a secondary assist credited to Emmanuel Frimpong.
