
Doubles Teams Advance on Day Two of All-American Tennis Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - The two Duke doubles teams were perfect on the first day of doubles competition advancing throught the first two rounds while Jonathan Stokke continued to advance in the singles bracket at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. on Tuesday.
Both doubles teams moved through the first two rounds of qualifying on Tuesday. Stokke and Joey Atas continued their strong play to start the season with another win as a duo. They earned a bye in the first round after winning the doubles championship at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships to start the season. In the second round, Stokke and Atas went up against Bryan Koniecko and Devin Mullings, a pairing from Ohio State. Atas is in his first year at Duke after transferring from Ohio State and he teamed up with Stokke to advance with an 8-5 win. The win improves their overall record to 5-0 on the season. Next up for the Blue Devils duo will be Markus Dickhardt and Christian Groh of San Diego State on Wednesday. The Aztecs pairing had a bye in the second round after winning their opening match 8-2.
The other Duke doubles team in action on Tuesday was Ludovic Walter and Peter Rodrigues. They came away with two wins on the day to advance. They defeated Federico Murgien and Peter Oredsson of Southern Methodist, 8-5, and then won a close 9-7 contest against Old Dominion's Henrique Cancado and Eidy Igarashi. Walter and Rodrigues will try to advance to the main draw when they take on Bram ten Berge and Juan Pablo Di Cesare of Ole Miss, who advanced with wins of 8-6 and 9-7.
Stokke continued to move through the singles bracket with another win today. He defeated Danny Bryan of LSU in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. He will play Di Cesare of Ole Miss on Wednesday for a spot in the main draw. Di Cesare won his singles match on Tuesday 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-1 over Georgia's Colin Purcell.
Rodrigues had a consolation match after losing in his first match of the season on Monday. He took on California's Lennart Maack who entered the tournament as the fifth seed and lost in the first round. Maack came away with a win in straight sets over Rodrigues, 6-1, 6-2.
The qualifying rounds will conclude on Wednesday for both singles and doubles. The winners of the qualifying matches will advance to the main draw which will begin on Thursday with the first and second rounds of singles and the first round of doubles. The championship matches will be held on Sunday. The tournament is being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center and is hosted by the University of Tulsa.
