
Rodrigues, Atas Fall To Top-10 Ranked Foes At All-American Championships

TULSA, OKLA. - The Duke duo of seniors Peter Rodrigues and Joey Atas fell to the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the country in the first round of the main draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships on Thursday. Rodrigues was also in action in the singles main draw and was defeated by the seventh-ranked player in the nation.
The 16th-ranked team of Rodrigues and Atas were taken down by the No. 1-ranked duo of Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe of Illinois, 8-3. Anderson and Rowe are the 2005 NCAA doubles champions.
In main-draw singles action, 44th-ranked Rodrigues fell to seventh-ranked Arnau Brugues of Tulsa in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). The senior remains in action in the consolation bracket and has already posted one win in that draw, as he defeated Brian Hung of Michigan, 6-2, 6-0 in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.
Rodrigues will meet 32nd-ranked Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee State at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
