PRINCETON, N.J. ? The Duke wrestling team wrapped up their regular season Friday night, defeating Princeton, 27-12, in Dillon Gymnasium. The Blue Devils improve to 4-11 overall while the Tigers fall to 5-10.
Duke won the first three matches of the night to take an insurmountable 13-0 lead. The dual meet began at 141 pounds where junior Philip Wightman defeated Eric Marcotulli, 8-4. Junior Daniel Shvartsman followed with a 13-5 major decision victory over Andrew Sichel at 149 pounds.
Freshman Addison Nuding registered the only fall of the night, pinning Matt Piselli in 41 seconds to give the Blue Devils the 13-0 lead.
Princeton cut Duke's lead to 13-6 by winning the next two bouts. At 165 pounds, Marty Everin defeated redshirt freshman Aaron Glover, 8-4, while Matt Denichilo edged senior Levi Craig, 2-1, at 174 pounds.
The Blue Devils would win the final four contested matches of the night to take a 27-6 lead. At 184 pounds, redshirt freshman Dan Fox posted a 15-9 victory over Logan Lowe. Sophomore Konrad Dudziak followed with a 16-2 major decision victory over Gordon Scharf at 197 pounds.
After freshman Wade Van Sickle defeated Kris Berr, 5-1, in the heavyweight bout, sophomore Kellan McKeon scored a 12-4 major decision victory over Robert Benitez at 125 pounds to close out the meet.
With the match in hand, the Blue Devils forfeited the final bout of the night at 133 pounds.
Duke will next compete at the 2006 ACC Championship on March 4 in Lexington, Va.
